Oregon State University - Business Management & Computer Science - GPA 3.45
Portland Community College - Landscape Design - GPA 4.0

Education does not end with college. I love landscape design because it affords me the opportunity to always be learning and applying new things. In that light I have attended a number of symposiums and classes given by creative and talented people. I also believe I can learn from my fellow designers, so I belong to the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, a national organization that provides rich educational opportunities as well as the chance to exchange ideas with designers all across the nation. I am also the president of the Association of Northwest Landscape Designers. ANLD enables designers in Oregon and Washington to support and encourage one another via networking and educational meetings and workshops.

Ann Nickerson Landscape Design, Inc - founded 1993

Since incorporating my business, I've designed well over one hundred gardens. They have ranged from four-acre country estates, complete with a small lake, to patio gardens and neighborhood parks. I've interpreted such styles as Japanese, Mediterranean, and English Cottage Garden to our climate and to specific needs of the site. I've created waterfalls, dry creek beds and boulder rookeries. I've found the right structures and accents to transform a plain corner into an inviting sanctuary. While doing all this, I've had fun and am always looking forward to the next challenge.

While still in school, I was given the Certificate of Achievement Award in recognition for being an outstanding student in the Landscape trade. In 1999 I was awarded the Governor's Livability Award for my part in designing the public parks and open spaces in the Canyon Creek Meadows development in Wilsonville, OR. I have also been invited to participate in four Street of Dreams projects during my career.

I am available to speak to small or large groups in a workshop or classroom format. A talk usually goes 30 to 45 minutes and is accompanied by handouts containing an outline of the topic and reference materials. I do not do slide presentations at this time. However, I am developing presentations using a laptop computer and can do a computer slide show if an Infocus projector system is rented or provided. I have the following topics ready to present, but other programs in the horticulture and design arena can also be developed at your request.

· Basic Design of the Garden
· Shade Gardens
· The Mixed Border
· Designing Great Containers

Integrity is a key component in my work. I pride myself in creating the best possible design to fit both the client's desires and the needs of the site. I also work to keep communication lines open and accessible. Before I place a company on my resource list, I insure that they respond quickly to client's needs and are great at what they do.
